Aedes
cinereus
Aedes cinereus
is the smallest mosquito commonly encountered in
Teton County. This species may have multiple
generations each year, however one generation
per season is most typical in Teton County with
adult Aedes cinereus emerging later in
June and persisting through much of the summer.
Larvae occur primarily in semipermanent sedge
marshes that are shaded or partially shaded by
small shrubs such as willows. Adult females may
locally become a nuisance near areas with
abundant larval habitat. Image from Carpenter &
LaCasse, 1955.
