Aedes vexans

Aedes vexans, which is commonly known as the "inland floodwater mosquito", is wide spread throughout the valley in Teton County. This species has multiple generations through the summer and occurs in all types of floodwater situations, but primarily in irrigated pastures and hayfields within the county. Females are vicious day or evening biters, flying great distances to feed on a variety of hosts including humans. This species is a major local pest.  Image from Carpenter & LaCasse, 1955.
