Teton County Mosquito Abatement
performs West Vile virus testing in our lab.
This year we have performed over 150 tests looking
for West Nile positive mosquitoes. We perform
these tests by separating the mosquitoes by species
and then placing them in pools of 50 or less
mosquitoes. We have been performing these tests for
several years. In early July we had two West
Nile virus positive samples from Buffalo Valley.
The species that tested positive was Oc. fitchii,
a common species for that area. These test
results
were confirmed by the Wyoming State Veterinary lab.
